Lake Timara Lodge

Located in Marlborough, Lake Timara Lodge, New Zealand owned and operated, is one of the country’s most luxurious and private lodges.  Built in 1924 the four bedroom country lodge is nestled in 600 acres of pasture, featuring a romantic lake and 25 acres of magnificent gardens. Lake Timara Lodge promises a haven of peace, quiet and relaxation.

One of the recognized highlights of a visit to Lake Timara Lodge is the fine cuisine prepared by charming host and Chef Louis Schindler.  Wine lovers will also find the lodges very own winery, the Spy Valley Vineyard only a short stroll away to taste and indulge in award winning wines.

Lake Timara Lodge's beautiful gardens are well renowned with garden enthusiasts throughout New Zealand and are meticulously maintained by a team of experienced and knowledgeable gardeners.    From the lodge, guest can explore New Zealand’s largest grape growing region, or the spectacular Marlborough Sounds (cruising, dolphin watching, swimming with dolphins, Mussel Cruise & Wine Tasting, short walks on Queen Charlotte Track, kayaking or bird watching).

Room Information

The rooms feature fine art and antiques and the quality furnishings are modern and tasteful, instilling a sense of utter luxury, right down to the softest Italian linen. 

All our air-conditioned bedrooms are fully serviced and non-smoking, the en suite bathrooms are all equipped with a hair dryer, shaver plug and heated towel rail. Bath towels, and Linden Leaves toiletries.

Lake Suite
The Lake Suite overlooks the Lodge's private man-made lake and is located at the corner of the house.  Featuring an English country house feel, the room is decorated in yellow and white regency striped wallpaper and furnishings with accents of deep claret reds reflecting in the Sanderson curtains.  The suite includes a sitting room and private en suite featuring a large bath.  Furnished with a Regency chest of drawers, a Victorian dressing table and chair, antique writing desk and a large wardrobe.  A great night’s sleep awaits on a King-size bed or twin bed.

Garden Suite 
The Garden suite has the most panoramic of all the views and a charm, which is enhanced by the bay window, which is the focus of the room.  Located at the front of the Lodge, the room enjoys views of the tennis court, swimming pool, the gardens and the lake.  The room is furnished with a king-size bed and 2 comfortable chairs set by the bay window, antique writing desk and large wardrobe.  The Suite features a small sitting area with private bathroom, including a shower.  The decor is terracotta-striped wallpaper and William Morris honeysuckle curtains.

Mountain Room 
Often referred to as the "honeymoon suite", the Mountain Room is located on the western side of the house.  The Mountain Room has the largest bathroom with a stunning two person spa bath, separate shower and large rimu vanity.  This room offers guests seclusion and privacy as it has its own entrance hall.  A recent addition to the room is a romantic bay window overlooking the private parkland with the Richmond Range in the distance.   Capturing the afternoon sun, the room can be made up with twin beds or as a comfortable king-size bed.

Balcony Room 
Once used as an open veranda, this room has many windows, giving the room a particularly generous and spacious feel. Located at the front of the house, the room captures the sun throughout the day.

This bright and sunny room has a king-size bed and its own en suite featuring a shower over the bath. Decorated in off-white with hints of subdued green and rose, the Balcony Room has large bi-folding windows offering expansive views of the tennis court, swimming pool, gardens, and has side views of the lake and private park.

Fine Dining: One of the recognized highlights of a visit to Lake Timara Lodge is the fine cuisine prepared by charming host and Chef Louis Schindler.  Louis' menus feature plentiful seafood like lobster, scallops, oysters, mussels, salmon and fresh fish from the Marlborough Sounds. The best of New Zealand lamb, beef and game is carefully sourced daily from around New Zealand to guarantee your enjoyment. Freshly harvested produce and herbs from our own garden ensure the freshest flavors to compliment Louis' dishes.

He worked for some of the finest Michelin starred restaurants in Europe and has been part in establishing the famous Herzog's Gourmet Restaurant in Marlborough. He is also a keen hunter, tramper, diver and fisherman who loves exploring the countryside and can tell a tale or two. Best of all - he will tell you where to find the hidden treasures of Marlborough

Wine: Wine lovers will also find the lodges very own winery, the Spy Valley Vineyard only a short stroll away to taste and indulge in award winning wines.

Lake Timara Lodge's beautiful gardens are well renowned with garden enthusiasts throughout New Zealand and are meticulously maintained by a team of experienced and knowledgeable gardeners. Amidst the 25 acres of magnificent gardens is a five-acre lake and an extensive and immaculately kept English-style garden featuring sweeping fully mature lawns - some more than a century old, native and exotic trees, a historic arboretum, perfume garden, daffodil lawn, woodland walk, and a new rose garden featuring more than 350 roses. 

From the lodge, guest can explore New Zealand’s largest grape growing region, or the spectacular Marlborough Sounds (cruising, dolphin watching, swimming with dolphins, Mussel Cruise & Wine Tasting, short walks on Queen Charlotte Track, kayaking or bird watching).
