1. 1984

   Where it began

   A New York meeting.

   Ian Swain, a "true blue" Aussie born in Brisbane, met his destiny in a New York nightclub when he stole the heart of his soon-to-be wife, Linda (Prehatny) Swain. They were engaged within a month.

   

2. 1987

   A family, a business

   Swain Australia Tours launches.

   After the birth of their first child, Ian and Linda founded Swain Australia Tours with a clear compass: personal service, high standards, and a "No Worries Mate!" approach to every traveler.

   

3. 1987–1997

   A decade of growth

   Largest seller of South Pacific travel on the East Coast.

   Word travels. Within ten years, Swain Australia Tours became the largest seller of South Pacific travel on the East Coast, building a reputation for designing trips that felt nothing like a packaged tour.

   

4. The years after

   Beyond the Pacific

   Swain Australia Tours becomes Swain Destinations.

   As loyal travelers asked for more Swain Destinations trips to other corners of the world, the company expanded across Africa, the Middle East, and beyond, growing into Swain Destinations.

   

5. Today

   A growing family

   Six children, seven grandchildren, and a team of Destination Experts.

   Now, more than 35 years on, Swain Destinations is led by an exceptional team of Destination Experts alongside our trusted suppliers around the world, recognized as a leading provider of "Luxury Travel with Heart" and honored with prestigious industry awards along the way.

   In April 2026, Ian Swain II stepped in to lead Swain Destinations into its next chapter. The commitment remains unchanged: thoughtful planning, deep destination knowledge, and the personal service clients have trusted since 1987.

   With his leadership, Swain Destinations will continue to invest in its Destination Experts and long-standing global partners so every journey reflects the service, care, and expertise that have defined the company from the start.
