Things To Do

Wellington Harbour
Wellington Harbour is one of the most popular scenic and recreational areas in the city. This magnificent harbor covers an area of 8,900 hectares and has a picturesque coastline that stretches for approximately 76 kilometers. Reputed to have been discovered by Kupe, a Polynesian explorer, the harbour has grown rapidly over the years to become one of the busiest ports in the country.  The expanse of water that forms the harbor is sheltered by beautiful rolling hills, and forms a narrow outlet that leads to the sea. The sheltered nature of the harbor has resulted in the formation of bays and beaches that are ideal for leisure activities.

Streams of locals and tourists visit the harbor daily to enjoy a wide variety of recreational pleasures that include swimming, bathing and other aquatic pastimes.

Botanic Gardens & Cable Car Museum
Recognized as an iconic symbol of Wellington, the Wellington Cable Car is perhaps the most popular source of transport in the city. Providing an exceptional experience, the funicular railway offers stunning panoramic views of Wellington including the Botanic Gardens in Wellington. Taking a ride on the cable car will be truly spectacular as travelers catch a glimpse of the stunning scenery surrounding the suburb of Kelburn.

Founded in 1902, the Wellington Cable Car has evolved drastically over the years to include an extended rail track of 628 meters. Climb aboard one of the cable cars as it travels from busy Lambton Quay to the peaceful and picturesque Wellington Botanic Gardens. A remarkable highlight of the excursion, the Botanic Gardens cover 26 hectares of lush greenery and is abound with exotic forests, native bushes and colorful floral displays. In addition, travelers will encounter unsurpassed views of its unique landscape, enveloped by gorgeous specialist gardens.
