The Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa is located in the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains, three hours west of Sydney. This region is one of the most popular natural areas in Australia.
The Blue Mountains have always been a special place of inspiration and spirituality. The Aborigines have lived among these rugged cliffs for tens of thousands of years. The early settlers looked west from Sydney Harbor and seeing the unusually blue-hued mountains dreamed of freedom and possibility.
Today the Blue Mountains are a huge expanse of world heritage protected bush. The Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa keeps true to the ethos of the Blue Mountains as one of Australia’s most environmentally responsible tourist destinations. It was the first hotel in the world certified as carbon neutral.
World-Class Accommodation
There are 40 spacious luxury lodges at Wolgan Valley, each with enormous living areas, double-sided fireplaces and generous bathrooms. Each has a private pool and verandah edged by aromatic native plants and shrubs. All lodges have sweeping views of the surrounding valley.
The resort’s Wolgan Dining Room creates gourmet dishes based on local, seasonal and organic ingredients. Dishes change according to the season and include specialties such as pork, venison, trout and lamb. Fruits and vegetables are grown in the resort’s kitchen garden and all ingredients are sourced from within a 100 mile radius wherever possible. The resort has its own cheese room and staff are always on hand to match local wines to each diner’s meal. The dining room features fireplaces for cozy seating during the winter months and a huge veranda for outdoor seating during warmer seasons.
The resort’s Country Kitchen provides an informal alternative to the main dining room. Kitchen specialties include ploughman’s platter, pasta and scrumptious cheese on. Guests can drop in for a light snack or coffee at any time during the day or order a gourmet picnic hamper to go.
The resort features a spa, fully-equipped gym and two grass tennis courts. The spa offers a range of holistic therapies that use the highest quality native plant essences and chemical free products. Previous well-traveled guests have referenced getting the “best massage ever” at the spa.
Exploring a Special Place
Guests can explore nature trails on foot, mountain bike, horseback or four-wheel drive. Each room comes complete with two mountain bikes so you can explore the area at your own pace.
The historical tours of Wolgan Valley tell the story of the area from two very different perspectives. Firstly, you’ll be guided by the local Aboriginal people who will explain what the landscape means to them and then by descendants of colonists who will explain their history and knowledge of the region, giving you a well-rounded view of this special place.
