The stay

What to know about this stay.

Orpheus Island Lodge occupies a private national-park island in the Great Barrier Reef, accommodating just 28 guests across 14 rooms, suites and villas along 11 kilometers of protected coastline. The lodge reopened in July 2026 with a renovated North Beachfront wing, reached by a 30-minute scenic helicopter flight from Townsville or 90 minutes from Cairns. As a member of Luxury Lodges of Australia, one of only 20 lodges nationwide to hold that distinction, the property meets the collective's exacting standards for remoteness, scale and genuine sense of place.

Snorkeling and diving run straight off the lodge into the surrounding Marine Park, no boat required to reach genuinely good reef. Every stay is all-inclusive, with gourmet dining, wine and water sports equipment folded into the rate, and being a private national-park island keeps the surrounding coastline free of the crowds found at more accessible reef destinations.

A dinghy trip with a gourmet picnic hamper or a visit to the Museum of Underwater Art both make for an easy half-day out, and Gwandalan Day Spa plus a Dining with the Tides signature dinner round out the quieter end of a stay. Accommodating just 28 guests across 11 kilometers of protected coastline, the lodge reopened in July 2026 with a renovated North Beachfront wing, reached by a 30-minute scenic helicopter flight from Townsville.
