Amboseli, immediately northwest of Mount Kilimanjaro and 150 miles southeast of Nairobi on the Tanzanian border, is certainly one of the most picturesque places in the whole of Africa to watch game. Where else could you watch a great herd of elephants trudging slowly across a wide empty plain dominated by Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro?Starting Accommodation:
Ol Tukai (B, L, D)
Day 5 – Amboseli National Park
Enjoy a full day in Amboseli National Park, which lies below the most famous symbol of Africa – Mount Kilimanjaro – 19,340 feet – the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest free standing mountain in the world.
Amboseli is a fairly small national park yet so rich in both flora and fauna that it has recently been designated an International Bio-sphere Reserve. Amboseli, meaning “Salty Dust” in the Maasai language is an important rangeland for the Maasai culture whilst the ‘salty dust’ itself is volcanic ash from the eruptions of Mount Kilimanjaro a millennium ago. Amboseli features grasslands, rolling hills and swamplands whilst the presence of Mount Kilimanjaro creates a unique selection of ecosystems found nowhere else on earth.Starting Accommodation:
Ol Tukai (B, L, D)
Day 6 – Amboseli to Samburu (Via Nairobi)
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Samburu through Nairobi. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your accommodation.
Samburu National Park is situated in the Northern Province of Kenya. It is rugged and a semidesert park. To get there you will cross the equator at Nanyuki and go to the northern hemisphere by passing the snow capped Mt. Kenya lying astrand the equator line and huge blue mountains serve as a back drop to this game reserve.Starting Accommodation:
Sarova Shaba Game Lodge (B, D)
Day 7 – Game Viewing in Samburu National Park
A place of endless skies, dust-red plains and palm-fringed rivers, this area lies on the fringes of the vast and arid desert once known as the Northern Frontier District. The park’s landscape features rocky battlements, dry river beds and fallen boulders rising out of the thorn scrub with the great red table mountain known as Lololokwi. Samburu provides one of the few sanctuaries in Kenya for the endangered Grevy’s zebra, the rare Beisa oryx and the blue-shanked Somali ostrich whilst large herds of elephant roam the gaunt hills during the day before returning to bathe on the banks of the river in the evening.
Enjoy a full day in the reserve with morning and afternoon game viewing. Seek out some of Kenya's rarer species like the long-necked gerenuk, Grevy's zebra and reticulated giraffe.Starting Accommodation:
Sarova Shaba Game Lodge (B, L, D)
Day 8 – Samburu to Masai Mara
Transfer to the airport for your onward flight. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your accommodation. Everything about this reserve is outstanding. The wildlife is abundant and the gentle rolling grasslands ensure that animals are never out of sight. Birds, too, are prolific. Maasai communities live within the dispersal area with their stock but a century of close association with the wildlife has resulted in an almost symbiotic relationship where wildlife and people live in peace with one another. The first sight of this natural wonderland is breathtaking. Here the great herds of shuffling elephants browse among the rich tree-studded grasslands with an occasional sighting of a solitary and ill-tempered rhino.Starting Accommodation:
Sarova Mara Game Camp (B, L, D)
Day 9 – Game Viewing in Maasai Mara
When it comes to game viewing, there is nowhere in Africa richer in wildlife or more eventful in encounters than the Mara. A pristine wilderness of haunting beauty, it promises its visitors a profusion of wildlife, prolific bird life and the unprecedented opportunity of catching up with all the members of the ‘Big Five’ in one morning. The scenery is a classic mix of African imagery; miles of lion gold grasslands, shoals of lilac-misted hills, a meandering river, acres of thorn bush and mile upon mile of undulating wilderness.
Enjoy a full day in the Mara with two game drives included. Wonderful scenery and an abundance of big game abound in this reserve.Starting Accommodation:
Sarova Mara Game Camp (B, L, D)
