The stay

What to know about this stay.

The Henry Jones Art Hotel occupies a jam-factory building on Hobart's waterfront dating to the 1820s, reworked by architects Morris-Nunn & Associates into Australia's first dedicated art hotel. Its 56 rooms and suites sit alongside more than 400 works from Tasmanian artists, with original sandstone walls and timber beams left exposed throughout.

The Bruny Wildlife Adventure departs from the hotel by luxury catamaran, pairing Tasmania's coastal wildlife with a day of local food and wine, one of the better full-day excursions available directly from a Hobart hotel. It's in the Hunter Street precinct, among Hobart's oldest waterfront warehouses, a short walk from Salamanca and the harbor.

The hotel's own collection of more than 400 works from Tasmanian artists doubles as a self-guided gallery walk for guests who'd rather stay in and explore the building itself, a jam factory dating to the 1820s reworked into Australia's first dedicated art hotel.
