The stay

What to know about this stay.

Karen Blixen Camp sits on the Mara River in the Mara North Conservancy, in the ecosystem's northwestern reaches, named for the Danish author of Out of Africa. Its 22 luxury canvas tents run on eco-friendly principles, each positioned for an unobstructed view of the river below.

Danish-owned, the camp leans into its literary namesake without losing sight of the conservancy's wildlife, which benefits from tighter visitor limits than the main Maasai Mara Reserve next door. The open-plan mess area, built on a raised wooden deck, overlooks a resident hippo pod, and evenings gather around the campfire under a magnificent African starlit sky.
Beyond the stay

Experiences nearby

Game drives across Mara North Conservancy trade the crowds of the main Maasai Mara Reserve for the same Big Five wildlife under a strict limit on vehicles per sighting, a genuinely different pace of safari. The camp's open mess area sits on a raised deck above the Mara River, overlooking a resident pod of hippos that provides its own soundtrack through breakfast and dinner.
