Laikipia Activities

Stretching from the slopes of Mt Kenya to the rim of the Great Rift Valley, is an area of vast open spaces and untamed wilderness where some of Kenya’s most encouraging conservation is happening. The Laikipia Plateau is located on the edge of the northern Kenyan frontier and is the ideal adventurer’s playground, perfect for travelers looking to feel the ground beneath their feet, walk in the wild and become immersed in their natural surrounds. Laikipia has a rich and varied biodiversity providing sanctuary to a wealth of endangered and rare species such as white and black rhino. Game drives offering opportunity to see a thriving wildlife population, including African wild dog, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, and desert warthog, with few other vehicles in sight. Accompanied by traditional Samburu guides whose knowledge of local flora, fauna, culture and history is unmatched offers a great way to view the stunning diversity of the area on a walking safari. Enjoy a cultural experience by visiting a traditional Masai village which is an opportunity to see how the Masai live. The area also offers more unusual activities such as camel safaris – a traditional mode of transport in the dry land of northern Kenya. For some excitement and adrenalin, jump on mountain bike and with your guide explore some of the biking trails in the conservancy. Meet the incredible K9 Unit dogs - from tracking the scent of a poacher, to detecting ammunition, these animals are imperative in anti-poaching efforts. Enjoy a unique opportunity to view chimpanzees and learn more about the day-to-day care at Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Note activities may vary between lodge accommodation and concessions.
