Day By Day

Day 1 – USA to Brisbane
Today you will begin your Swain Destinations customized itinerary. Please note, international air has not been included in this package price.

Day 2 – Cross the International Date Line
Cross the International Date Line, an imaginary line on the surface of the Earth that runs from the North to the South Pole - and defines one calendar day from the next. Crossing the International Date Line adds one day (24 hours) traveling west, and subtracts one day (24 hours) traveling east.

Day 3 – Welcome to Brisbane, Australia
Welcome to Brisbane, Australia! On arrival into Brisbane Airport you will be met by a representative and transferred to your accommodation. 

In a nation bordered by beaches, Brisbane is the only place where you can find one in the midst of downtown. Skyscrapers and swimmers come together at South Bank Parklands, a popular local haunt, containing an artificial swimming beach, weekend markets and cheerful cafes. Brisbane hasn't lost sight of its country town roots despite a boom in the past decade.

Day 4 – Lamington National Park Tour
Learn about the convict history of Brisbane and the European settlement of southern Queensland. Your driver/guide will discuss how the surrounding volcanic mountains were formed 24 million years ago and describe the region's pioneering history.

Head on a 4WD mountain trek through a variety of Australian landscapes with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Keep a lookout for the cute pademelons (small rainforest dwelling kangaroos) as you arrive at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat. Hand-feed the cheeky, but vibrantly colored crimson rosellas and king parrots - both truly some of Australia's most beautiful birds.

Enjoy lunch high on the mountain with views west over the valleys, learning about local folklore before embarking on the famous O'Reilly's Tree Top Walk through some of Australia's most stunning rainforest is on offer. A stop is made at Kamarun Lookout with 270 degree views over the gorgeous Sarabah Valley and across to Springbrook before heading back to Brisbane.

Day 5 – Spirit of Queensland
Embark on a rail journey from Brisbane to Cairns. Board the Spirit of Queensland for an overnight journey to Tropical Northern Queensland. Enjoy the ever-changing scenery as your cruise up the coast. The superb Spirit of Queensland journey, which snakes its way along Queensland's coastline. To see the best of Queensland, just sit back, relax and let the Spirit of Queensland show you the rest.

Day 6 – Welcome to Port Douglas
Upon arrival into Cairns, you will be met and transferred to your Port Douglas accommodation at Thala Beach Nature Reserve. 

Located on a private peninsula, surrounded by exquisite private beaches and coves on three sides, is the most beautiful location in this area north of Cairns. This area is protected and recognized by World Heritage at the highest level of classification. Thala Beach Nature Reserve is an environmentally sensitive lodge, with one central building and a collection of private deluxe bungalows, built amongst the treetops, looking out to the Great Barrier Reef. Thala commands views overs 60 miles of unspoiled coastline yet is less than an hours drive from Cairns Airport.

Day 7 – Walkabout Cultural Tour
Spend the day with a local Aboriginal tour guide, visiting a number of culturally significant areas and learning about the amazing relationships the Kuku Yalanji still have with their land. Learn the history, culture and traditions of the local Aboriginal people and the area.

Walk through the rainforest and coastal habitats learning about the environment, different foods and medicines utilized from nature, sample some bush tucker, collect shellfish and try traditional Aboriginal hunting practices, have a go at spear throwing and if you are lucky, catch a mud crab. To complete the adventure cool off in a pristine freshwater stream.

Day 8 – Sailaway – Full Day Outer Reef Tour
The adventure starts with an early departure from Port Douglas Marina. Sit back and relax on the beautiful yacht and set sail to the Coral Cays of Mackay or Undine Reefs. You will enjoy an authentic sailing experience, following the coastline and views of the Daintree mountains.

Once at the protected sites at the Coral Cays, nature activities will include snorkeling over the pristine coral reef with a qualified marine biologist offering reef interpretation on a guided snorkel tour. A glass bottom boat coral viewing tour is also on offer. Premium reef sites showcase abundant marine life, including encounters with turtles and an amazing display of giant clam gardens, beautiful corals and a wide variety of fish.

Exploring the white sands of the coral cays will relax the mind. Soak up the sun, peace and tranquility and swim in turquoise clear waters. Small numbers of guests ensure personal interactive communication with experience guides.

A tropical buffet lunch, morning and afternoon teas & coffees, supplied by local plantations, will compliment a day of adventure and relaxation. Expert guiding and 1st class services are all included from helpful, friendly crew. Please bring your bathing suit, a towel, sunscreen and a hat.

Day 9 – At leisure, Port Douglas
Today is at your leisure to enjoy Thala Beach or to explore Cairns. The major center in Tropical North Queensland is Cairns, a popular gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. The city is fringed by lush rainforests and, to the north and south, are miles of white sandy beaches and turquoise oceans teeming with marine life. Explore the surrounding area on your own or on one of our additional day excursions.

Day 10 – Fly Cairns to USA
Today ends your Queensland adventure. You will be met at your hotel and transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
