Things To Do
The Kafue is Zambia’s oldest protected area and, at 5.5 million acres, it is one of the largest in Africa. With its rich variety of wildlife, guests have access to 231 square miles of seasonally inundated grassy floodplains to explore on game drives or by boat, spotting pods of hippos and the exceptionally rich birdlife.
Game Drives and Night Drives
Interpretive game drives in open 4x4 vehicles allow guests to view large numbers of plains game such as puku, red lechwe, buffalo, and wildebeest—even the rare roan antelope. The famed lions of Kafue patrol this wilderness, along with cheetah and wild dogs.
Led by a highly trained and knowledgeable guide, take in the clear night skies—and the night creatures—on a night drive. Glimpse into Busanga Plains’ unique, nocturnal world—a diverse range of species may be seen, including genet, civet, owls, and occasionally the beguiling leopard.
Boating (Seasonal)
Float through the channels at the beginning of the season when the floodplains are still filled with water. Specially-adapted motorboats can be used in very low water levels allowing for excellent birding opportunities and viewing of hippo, lechwe and puku. This activity is water level permitting and mostly at the beginning of the season.
Birding
Delight in birding as rosy-throated longclaws and grey crowned cranes are usually commonplace sightings on drives.
Dining Under The Stars
The "dining room" is shaded by the canopy of a majestic tree from which a unique lantern chandelier hangs, romantically illuminating dinner. Evenings often wind up fireside, under the stars, ending a day of adventure and matchless hospitality.
