On this trip, you will explore the jungles and mountains of the area with a bird’s eye view by ziplining through the tree-tops through the winds of the ravine. You will have the chance to take in the majestic beauty of one of the region’s waterfalls, measuring over 100 feet in height, as well as to swim in the refreshing water from the falls. A trip to northern Chiapas will take you to the archaeological site of Palenque, an ancient Mayan city acknowledged as one of the greatest achievements of ancient man."

Day By Day

Day 1 – Tuxtla Gutierrez to San Cristobal via Sumidero Canyon
Upon arrival at Tuxtla Gutierrez Airport, you will be met by your English speaking driver and assisted to the vehicle. Travel overland by private transfer tour to the colonial highland town of San Cristobal de Las Casas. En-route you will take a boat trip along the river through the Sumidero Canyon, with its walls that measure thousands of feet in height. Upon arrival into San Cristobal de Las Casas, check into your hotel and enjoy rest of evening at leisure.

Day 2 – Zipline, Hiking and Outdoor Adventure in El Arcotete Eco Tourist Park
Today after breakfast enjoy a 15 minute drive to the beautiful natural recreational park of El Arcotete, one of 7 ecological sites surrounding San Cristobal, The park is typical of the natural existing beauty all throughout the state of Chiapas and is most well known for a large stone arch that crosses the river Fogotico. Enjoy a day of excursions with Zipline and explore the interior cavities with stalactites and twisted rock formations. Besides the arch and river that winds through the park there are trails with an abundance of vegetation, oak, pine and cypress trees for those who like to hike.

Day 3 – San Juan Chamula, Zinacantan and San Cristobal de las Casas Tour
Take a cultural journey to understand the local Maya culture with a trip to the indigenous towns of San Juan Chamula and San Lorenzo Zinacantan. These two fascinating towns are mostly populated by the Tzotzil Maya people, a traditional community with ancient customs and culture. There after, enjoy a guided tour of San Cristobal de las Casas, a gorgeous colonial city nestled at the bottom of a valley. Tour its cobblestone streets, learning all about its history and culture from your expert guide.

Day 4 – Agua Azul Waterfalls and Palenque Tour
This morning you depart the colonial city of San Cristobal de las Casas. With your expert guide travel about 80 miles from San Cristobal de las Cases to Agua Azul waterfalls. The waterfalls name means blue water, named because of the bright blue hue water thundering down. The incredible color is, in fact, because the high mineral content of the water, which deposits itself on the rock. Enjoy a chance to cool off in the natural pools that form along the river below the falls. This region is a typical example of the rainforest of Chiapas’s highlands, consisting of rich vegetation and towering Mahogany and Sapodilla trees.

Day 5 – Palenque Archaeological Site & Misol Ha Waterfall
Today begins with a trip north to the archaeological site of Palenque, located in the central portion of the Maya area. The mighty Maya temples of Palenque are deservedly one of the top destinations of Chiapas and one of the best examples of Maya architecture in all of Mexico. This site had remarkable cultural development until the late Classic period (ad 300) and has outstanding architectural beauty and aesthetic importance, which makes this unique city, situated in the middle of the jungle, one of the greatest creations of the ancient men. After exploring the ruins of Palenque, you will visit another beautiful waterfall called Misol-Ha, which comes from the word meaning “sweep, or fall of water”.

Day 6 – Yaxchilan and Bonampak Full Day Excursion
Early this morning (6:00 am) you will depart with your expert guide for an unforgettable excursion (10-11 hours) to the remote Mayan archaeological sites of Yaxchilan and Bonampak located deep in the Lacandon Jungle. Enjoy breakfast en route. Access to the location is by boat which is approximately 30 minutes each way. As you explore the ruins the calls of the large troops of howler monkeys remind you just how far from modern civilization you are and how powerfully alive the Lacandón forest remains. After time to take in these surprising illustrations, head back to Palenque arriving in the late afternoon.

Day 7 – Palenque to Villahermosa
Today you will depart Palenque and travel overland by private vehicle to Villahermosa City, approximately 2 hours. On arrival visit La Venta Park Museum, which boats one of the largest collections of artifacts belonging to the Olmec culture. This site was designed, organized and assembled by the poet Carlos Pellicer, Tabasco. After visiting the museum, you will be transferred to your hotel for check in.

Day 8 – Depart Villahermosa
Ahead of your flight you will be transferred by an English speaking driver from your hotel to Villahermosa Airport to connect with your departing flight.
