Located about 80 miles from San Cristobal de las Cases are the Agua Azul waterfalls. The waterfalls name means blue water, named because of the bright blue hue water thundering down. The incredible color is, in fact, because the high mineral content of the water, which deposits itself on the rock. Enjoy a chance to cool off in the natural pools that form along the river below the falls. This region is a typical example of the rainforest of Chiapas’s highlands, consisting of rich vegetation and towering Mahogany and Sapodilla trees.
