With the sun long risen, awake in the peaceful silence of a summer morning; it’s time to get your hiking boots on and set off for a day in the national parks. Experience the diversity of Finnish nature, enjoy lunch by the open fire, and perhaps a dip into the wild water for a swim. Take a slow paddle in the calm waters in your canoe to encounter incredible views of the area from the middle of the lakes.

This evening, visit Tertti Manor for a first class dining experience. The manor house is a functioning farm, and a heaven for gastronomes. Here you can literally see the food planted and cultivated, and the host will be delighted to share stories about growing food in northern Europe.

Day 3 – Saimaa Lake District - Living From the Earth

Nature in Saimaa is abundantly filled with yumminess. Search for forest delicacies such as mushrooms and berries, bursting with the fresh taste of Finland. The lakes are teeming with fish, waiting to be hooked and enjoyed as part of your meal of the day. Your guide will assist you in picking the most delicious ingredients from which to prepare a forest lunch, just like the locals.

Fishing is an artform in Finland and the most common pastime activity in the country, feeding many families throughout the year. As the afternoon turns into evening, drop a line in and wait to feel the weight on the end of your rod!

Day 4 – Days of Yore, Savonlinna & Steam Ship Cruise

After a few days in nature, today you will head to Savonlinna, a picturesque, small city in the Lakelands. Visit the vivid summer markets; the market square is the heart of the city, surrounded by fish restaurants, open air cafes, and harbors. The markets provide perhaps the best places to sample street food and local specialties, such as a fish pasty (kalakukko), or half-moon shaped pastry (lörtsy) while taking in the local, easy-going way of life.

Discover the past traditions and history of the region with a stop at Olavinlinna, the world’s northernmost medieval castle, dating back to 1475. Each ruler at Olavinlinna left their distinct style from their regime, making the architecture unique and giving the castle its charming appearance. The location of the castle was strategically built to protect the region from attacks from the east. Between the grand walls of the castle, you can still hear the ring of the swords, the thunder of cannons and the giggle of the maids. The castle not only takes you back centuries but provides an epic setting for lunch.

Savonlinna in the heart of Saimaa is the home of Finnish water transport, boosting over 1,050 miles of waterways. Cruising on the Saimaa lake districts is a must-do summer experience and there’s no more authentic way of traveling than boarding a true steam ship. Amongst the labyrinth of lakes, there’s more than 14,000 green but rugged islands, many of them uninhabited. The area is also the home of the Saimaa ringed seal, one of the most endangered seals in the world and only found in Saimaa – keep your eyes on the picturesque shoreline and perhaps you’ll spot one of these rare but beloved creatures.

Sip a glass of wine and enjoy the tranquility as you pass by stunning scenery while your chef prepares lunch using local produce.

Starting Accommodation: Saimaa Lake District Beach Chalet

Day 5 – Saimaa Lake District - Farewell Dip in Ahti’s Empire

From the pier of your chalet, as the sun glistens over Saimaa, you can easily spot fish swimming in the crystal clear water, playfully chasing each other. Why not jump in for a refreshing dip in Ahti’s (the Finnish god of water and fishing), before it’s time to depart.

Ahead of your flight, you will be transferred from your accommodation to Helsinki International Airport.
