  • Islington Hotel Hobart

In keeping with the history and ethos of Tasmania and on a prime site in Hobart sits The Islington Hotel, formerly a stately home and now an 11 room luxury urban lodge for those seeking a gracious and elegant retreat amid a charming and tranquil setting. Built in 1847 in Regency style, Islington Hobart commands breathtaking views of Mt Wellington. Located in the dress circle of Hobart, a five minute drive from the city center and historic Salamanca Place.

Inside, the Library, the Conservatory and the Morning and Rose rooms offer the perfect places to relax and meet other guests. Islington is a curated hotel. Corridors and rooms are filled with art and antiques, a ancient, modern and eclectic mix of 30 years of travelling around the world, added together with the historic nature of Islington itself and the owner's family history in Tasmania.

Eleven sumptuously furnished guest rooms many with distinct characters reflect an eclectic mix of a rich Tasmanian history coupled with contemporary elements. Each room has a distinctive design flourish, celebrating one of the many early Tasmanians who provided inspiration for the hotel.

Islington accommodation rooms are resplendent with fabulous imported fabrics, fine antiques and the famous deeply comfortable king size Islington Angel beds. Specially made for the hotel by A H Beard, the oldest bedding manufacturers in Australia and located in southern Tasmania, the Islington Angel beds have been custom made using the latest latex materials with wool embedded into the layers for warmth and comfort

Using the finest plant-based ingredients and non-botanical elements such as anti-oxidants Aesop skin hair and body products are offered in each guest room and complement the character infused throughout the hotel

In the Kitchen the resident chef uses seasonal, organic, locally grown produce, even some from the Islington's own gardens to compose an ever changing a la carte menu available in the intimate restaurant. A cellar holds vintages selected from the best vineyards both locally and further afield as well as some of the best Tasmanian whiskeys available. Guests can sense, feel and breathe the best as they unwind in the personal space of their own room, by the log fire in the sumptuous glass roofed conservatory, or under the graceful fronds of the 100 year old willow in the landscaped gardens as the spirituality of Mount Wellington envelops them. All this just 5 minutes from the center of Hobart with its historic waterfront, restaurants and artisan’s shops.
