Abu Simbel Temple Tour

Visit the two temples of Abu Simbel, this great temple on rock boats four colossal seated statues of King Ramesses II in front of the entrance. Threatened by the waters upon the completion of the Aswan High Dam, UNESCO took action to move and rebuild these temples on a plateau above the former site. The temple is precisely oriented so that twice a year, the first rays of the morning sun shine down the entire length of the temple-cave to illuminate the back wall of the innermost shrine and the statues of the four gods seated there (flight from Aswan).
