Enjoy the outdoors in style at this iconic lodge. Zane Grey made it famous, the Queen Mother stalked trout in it, US President Jimmy Carter found solitude beside it. Tongariro Lodge is situated in park-like grounds on the southern shores of Lake Taupo on the banks of the legendary Tongariro River. The lodge guides provide anglers some of the best trout fishing in the world. Close by is the Tongariro World Heritage National Park, where guests can enjoy the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, heli-hiking, scenic flights and snow skiing in the winter. Lodge guests can also enjoy white water rafting, the country's top golf courses and numerous other world-class outdoor activities.

The lodge provides a unique fishing lodge atmosphere with comfortable lounges, open fires, friendly and efficient staff and the best of food and wine. Guests have nine hectares of grounds to explore. Relax in the separate and private well-appointed villas. The lodge also offers a spa pool, tennis court and heli pad.

Magnificently appointed 3 bedroom villas provide plenty of space along with quality furnishings. Enjoy separate, open plan lounge and dining areas with snug armchairs, deep drapes and sky television. Each villa has private bathrooms and en suite facilities. The villas also boast a full kitchen, laundry and free Wi-Fi. King beds and a variety of bedding options are available upon request.

For a less expensive option guests can enjoy the original Tongariro Lodge chalets. World Class Fly Fishing: Tongariro Lodge offers the ultimate New Zealand fly fishing experience, as well as access to the best wilderness rivers and streams on New Zealand's north island. Experienced lodge guides provide access to over 30 rivers and four lakes by 4WD vehicles, raft and boat, along with special helicopter access. 

Tongariro Alpine Crossing: 
The Tongariro Alpine Crossing track passes over varied and spectacular volcanic terrain. In the presence of active volcanoes you can experience some of the Tongariro National Park’s special gifts. A cold mountain spring, lava flows, an active crater, steam vents, emerald colored lakes and magnificent views combine to make this a truly memorable experience.

This 7 to 8 hour day journey is a ‘must-experience’ while visiting Tongariro National Park during summer or spring.

Taupo Heli Hiking: Tongariro Lodge has arranged access to private land in the Kaimanawa Ranges through its close working relationship with its preferred helicopter charter company, and offers the most spectacular heli-hiking options in New Zealand.  The Kaimanawa Ranges extend for over 50 kilometers through majestic wilderness south of Taupo.

Heli-hiking offers unique opportunities to walk amongst the completely natural and spectacular scenery at the top of  the Kaimanawa Ranges and the Central Plateau without having to climb a mountain.
