The George

In recent years, The George has won several international awards.  Travel + Leisure magazine in 2005 named it one of the top 25 hotels in New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific and one the of "500 Best Hotels in the World" for both 2004 and 2003. The magazine's readers also awarded The George "Best Hotel in New Zealand" 2002. The same year Business Asia magazine readers chose The George as "Best Business Hotel in Asia" (New Zealand section) an award it won for the second time in 2005.  They have just been awarded the 2007 Award for best hotel in New Zealand.

Room Information

It's all about absolute luxury at The George of Christchurch and the 53 deluxe rooms and suites are no exception. The tones are warm and mellow, the spaces are generous, the views green and restful.

Suite

Enjoying dreamy views over both Hagley Park and the River Avon these luxurious suites are designed to exhilarate and pamper you in every way. Blond wood, mellow, warm furnishings, sleek, generous spaces, all punctuated with the special features that are unique to The George and created with the most discerning guest in mind.

The Residence
In a garden world of their own these opulent suites are contained in the graceful 'Residence' situated beside the hotel and accessed via an enclosed walkway. Elegantly furnished, spaciously appointed and blissfully quiet these luxury suites are for those who seek a quiet sanctuary in the most aesthetic of garden settings.

Each of the two suites can be booked separately or for an additional fee the entire property and its stunning old English garden can be booked for your exclusive use. The following facilities are also available within 'The Residence':

  • Adjoining lounge with French-doors into the tranquil, English garden

Designed in 2006 by leading Christchurch architects Warren and Mahoney.

The rooms feature custom made furniture, new white tiled bathrooms with heated mirrors and under-floor heating, luxurious bedding with either Californian Kings beds (can be split into twins), or regular King beds in the balcony rooms, night sensor lighting, computer points beside the bed and the desk, and safes with built in charging capacity for laptops. 32" LCD TVs and the latest digital movie system have been installed in all guest rooms. Premium Executive Room
Designed in 2006 by leading Christchurch architects Warren and Mahoney and interior designer Susie Paynter.
