Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma

Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma is built on a dramatic bend of the Zambezi River in the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, 7.4 miles upstream from the world-famous Victoria Falls. Named after Dr. David Livingstone's faithful friends Sussi and Chuma, the lodge is located in one of the most beautiful parts of the Zambezi amidst Jackalberry trees and Phoenix palms, providing unrivalled views and exclusivity. Accommodation is in twelve Sussi tree-houses, connected by wooden walkways. Built on two levels, the main lodge consists of an elevated bar, lounge and open-air dining area, curio shop and swimming pool. Full English and continental breakfast is served and a snack menu is available all day.

Room Information

Twelve luxury tree houses are built into the canopy of majestic ebony trees lining the riverbank. The air-conditioned rooms, all with their own private viewing deck boast superb views over the white waters of the Zambezi.

Things To Do

Game Drives
Explore the land as it was when Livingstone first made his way across the ridge and beheld the smoke that thunders. The park has elephant, impala, giraffe, buffalo, hippo, crocodile, zebra in large numbers and an exciting array of birds, including some Southern African specials like Peters Finfoot.

Canoe on the Zambezi
Enjoy a two hour canoeing excursion on the Zambezi River, either in the morning or afternoon.

Tour of Victoria Falls
Just a short drive away from the world famous Victoria Falls, enjoy a walking tour of The Falls on the Zambia side. First described to Europe by explorer David Livingstone and known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, or "the Smoke that Thunders", the falls make a constant roar and are accompanied by a cloud of brilliant spray where the mile wide Upper Zambezi falls 300 feet into the Lower Zambezi.

Explore the Victoria Falls from the Zimbabwean side allowing you to get a different view of the falls while learning about some facts and history along the way. (Tour from the Zimbabwe side is an additional cost)

Walking Safaris
There can be few more thrilling ways to experience and understand African wildlife, the bush and ecosystem as a whole than by being on foot on a walking safari.

Sundowner Cruise
A Zambezi River cruise is a great way to spend a few hours, sipping on a cocktail while watching the sunset over the majestic Zambezi River is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

Locak School and Village Tour
Nakatindi village is located about 4 miles from Livingstone and 3 miles from Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma. Enjoy an opportunity to visit Nakatindi Community School which is responsible for the education of 442 pupils or Chipego bike shop, where guests can hire bicycles to use to tour the village.

Fishing
The fishing season generally runs from 1 March to 1 December each year. All fishing is on strict "Catch and Release".

White Water Rafting
Ready for a dose of adrenaline? The Zambezi is a river, a waterfall, and the most magnificent white water rafting corridor on earth! The giant Zambezi River is acclaimed as the wildest commercial one-day white water run in the world, an incredible adrenaline ride reputed to tame the most hardened adrenaline-junkie! Livingstone Island Visit
A Livingstone Island visit begins with a thrilling ride through the channels of the Zambezi in twin-engine boats. During the guided exploration of the island you will learn about its long history, from ancient times, when it was a sacrificial site, to the present day, as a protected World Heritage Site.
