Day By Day

Day 1 – Arrive in Mexico City and Mexico City Historic Center and Chocolate Tasting

When you arrive in Mexico, you will be greeted in the arrivals hall of Mexico City International Airport. They will accompany you to the awaiting car and introduce you to the driver. Transfer to your city hotel by private vehicle.

This afternoon, enjoy a half day guided tour to discover Mexico’s history while exploring the historic center of the capital. What is now the heart of this modern city was also once the center of the Aztec world, Tenochtitlan. Taking a walk along some of the center’s iconic streets your guide will lead you through the cathedral, zocalo and most important highlights.

Time permitting, you will also enjoy a 50 minutes chocolate tasting experience, to learn about cacao, its origins, history and usage as you sample 6 different chocolates and a cacao-based drink. Once your exploration of the historic center, and chocolate tasting is complete, you will be driven back to your hotel.

Day 2 – Mexico City Market Tour and Cooking Class

Accompanied by two locally renowned cooks you will have a cultural and culinary experience in the heart of one of Mexico City's most artistic and dynamic neighborhoods – La Roma. The day begins in the morning next to the Medellin market where you will taste authentic Mexican tortillas made with traditional Nixtamal dough and learn how this vitamin rich food has spanned the test of time throughout Mesoamerica. Afterwards, you will walk into the market to discover the colors, aromas and deep-rooted tradition of an authentic Mexican market. With a shopping bag in tow, you will interact with local merchants, taste spices, cheeses, ice cream, single origin coffee from Chiapas, and much more.

After tasting and selecting the best fresh ingredients for your menu you will enjoy a short walk to a beautifully restored mansion where your hands-on cooking lesson begins. Generations-old culinary secrets and techniques are shared during this interactive gathering while you chop, grill, marinate and steam to create a 3-course menu with sauces and garnishes. Once completed you dine on your creations paired with Mexican wine and a tasting of craft Mezcal from Oaxaca.

Day 3 – Travel to San Miguel de Allende

This morning, check out of your hotel and meet your driver in the hotel lobby for a private transfer to San Miguel De Allende (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). En route, you will stop for visit at one of the most famous archaeological sites in Mexico, Teotihuacan. As you explore the site, learn about Teotihuacan’s accomplishments; the Temples of the Sun and Moon and other important structures shed light on the life and times of these powerful inhabitants of Mexico's oldest and most important permanent settlement. After the site your adventure continues northwards towards San Miguel de Allende.

Day 4 – San Miguel City Tour and Dos Buhos Vineyard

Meet your guide in the hotel lobby for a walking city tour of the colorful historic center of San Miguel de Allende. You will visit the most important attractions including the famous Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel designed by the indigenous stonemason Zeferino Gutierrez from a postcard depicting a Belgian Church. You will learn how the history and lore of San Miguel are intertwined with the Independence Movement.

At noon, your guide will drive you just outside of central San Miguel de Allende for a visit to the Dos Buhos Vineyard. Upon arrival you will be received with a glass of cold sangria (or bottle of Sentia water) to begin your privately guided tour of the property, the vineyards and the wine-making facilities before enjoying a deluxe wine pairing of 5 wines. You will sample the wines with a gourmet picnic meal that includes a cheese platter with baguettes, homemade marmalade, Quiche Lorraine, a salad, prosciutto, cold cut meats, a gourmet chocolate chip cookie and chocolates. This menu can either be packed into a picnic basket or served under our beautiful Mesquite tree on an antique picnic table with elegant table settings.

After your tour and picnic lunch at the vineyard, you will be driven back to San Miguel de Allende by your private bilingual guide, for a visit to the Botanical Gardens. This large nature reserve is home to a varied collection of cacti and other Mexican plants. Many of the plants and flowers found there are rare and endangered. You will have a chance to explore the gardens and learn more about the diverse range of flora before returning to your hotel.

Day 5 – San Miguel Market to Kitchen Experience

Your afternoon culinary experience starts with an excursion through San Miguel's main food market, selecting from a variety of Mexican foods and herbs, to gather the freshest ingredients for your meal.

Next, you will head to one of the town's most treasured places to cook a meal indulging in all the aromas and tastes just gathered. The cooking class will take place in the spacious kitchen on the grounds of one of San Miguel's best maintained 'Apple's Heart' - which refers to the courtyard garden and grove found in the interiors of the mansions surrounding the Parroquia. Just half a block from the main square and with a working organic garden, the grove now has a prominent home built in the 1960's by a renowned architect, and is still the estate of one of San Miguel's original families. This is where the afternoon will be spent, enjoying samples of local, typical cheeses and wines on the veranda and then go on to make salsas combing the chiles and herbs used in typical Mexican cooking. You will also learn how to make fresh tortillas and a cook up several 'guisos' (stews) and a not-so traditional guacamole. Preparations will culminate in a fine meal made by all in the gardens of one San Miguel's cherished spaces.

Day 6 – San Miguel to Guadalajara via Tlaquepaque

This morning, meet your guide in the hotel lobby for a private transfer to Guadalajara. After almost 4 hours drive, arrive at Guadalajara, with a first stop in Tlaquepaque for lunch (not included). Experience the culture combined with artisans work flavor of Mexico in this town. Your experience continues with a brief visit to the historic center, before being dropped at your hotel.

Day 7 – VIP Tequila Full Day Tour

Embark on the ultimate VIP tequila experience, enjoying exclusive access to distilleries typically closed to the general public and sampling some of the world’s finest tequila. This truly exceptional tour is led by Clayton Szczech, one of the world’s leading tequila experts. His background in sociology and anthropology provides a unique insight into tequila’s cultural and historical context, as well as the technical aspects of its production.

Arriving in Tequila, guests head directly to gorgeous agave fields to learn all about the plant from which tequila is derived. Weather permitting, participate in a harvest with local jimadores (agave farmers), then head to the first world-class distillery on the tour. Among the distilleries that may be visited are: Fortaleza, where the Sauza dynasty has produced tequila for five generations; La Tequileña, a modern boutique distillery owned by the renowned Fonseca family; and Herradura, one of the last tequila-producing haciendas left. Other options include: El Tequileño (not to be confused with La Tequileña!), the unofficial house tequila of Tequila; Tequila Las Américas, one of the most sought-after organic brands; and Tequila Cascahuín, a distillery at the forefront of re-introducing ancestral production methods. The guide will lead the way, choosing distilleries based on their tequila quality, history, and the chance of experiencing the tequila-making process in action. Each stop features a VIP tour led by either the expert guide or one of the distillery owners, plus a guided tequila-tasting. Lunch is enjoyed in Tequila’s Municipal Market, and this VIP experience ends with an expertly guided walking tour of Tequila’s historic center and a tequila tasting Room.

Day 8 – Depart Guadalajara

Ahead of your flight, you will be transferred from your accommodations to the Guadalajara International Airport.
