West Side Story exploded onto Broadway in 1957, a phenomenon that never faded. On the mean streets of New York's West Side, two rival gangs strut their stuff. But when a Jet falls for a Shark, the stay is set for a rumble. Their wistful love story is studded with infectious songs including 'Somewhere', 'Maria', 'I Feel Pretty', 'America', 'Cool' and, of course, 'Tonight'. The star-crossed lovers, Maria and Tony, are portrayed by Alexander Lewis and Julie Lea Goodwin. These stars reprise their sizzling chemistry of their performances together in The Merry Widow and The Phantom of the Opera. An all-singing, all-dancing supporting cast takes on Bernstein's brilliant score and Jerome Robbins' original electrifying choreography.
Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour is an open-air event and, as such, there is a certain risk of bad weather. Opera Australia is committed to going ahead with a performance even in doubtful weather conditions.
